We started out again going to the NE entrance to Yellowstone. I missed the turn and we followed 120 into Montana. I cut over to Red Lodge and then took 212 south to the entrance to Yellowstone.
Good alternate plan, but I had no idea of the adventure route 212 had in store for us. A cold front was coming through and we never even thought how high the mountains were that we had to traverse.
It was 84 Degrees as we drove through the Montana Flatlands, little did we know that driving over the mountains the temperature would drop to 48
The height shown in the picture was only about 3/4 of the way up the mountain
It kept getting colder and colder and higher and higher
The metal column you see in the picture is the top of a ski area's chair lift
Right after Deb took these pictures we passed a man walking back to his car in his ski boots and carrying his skis and poles over his shoulders. Also, I'm not sure if you can see it but outside the rain changed to snow!
But it was all worth it, look at these pictures as we got to Yellowstone
We stopped at Tower Falls and got a drink... As we sat there I realized that right across the street, about 10' off the road and 10 feet up a rock wall sat a huge elk with a huge rack. He just laid there and watched everyone across the street. Can you see him through the trees?
Tower Falls was absolutely beautiful, it's an 800 foot drop.
The Bison were all over today
It was a great day and every picture is no way near as beautiful as this wonderful park is
